Create Beautiful Music with Us

Instruments of all kinds help us create beautiful music.

Creating beautiful music and singing are two ways our church focuses on God during times of worship. Look around on any given Sunday, and you may see a friend or other loved one weeping silently–moved to tears over familiar lyrics or a melody, or by something entirely new that invokes strong emotion. At other times, you will be just as likely to notice smiles upon those who joyfully resonate with the music and song selections of the day.

For decades, we have been blessed by dedicated vocalists and musicians who lead us into deeply personal moments with God. As we continue to uphold this long-standing tradition, we invite you to lend your own talents to our music ministry. Your contributions will be held in high regard at Mt. Hope.

Nineteenth-century poet Arthur O’Shaughnessy recognized the vital roles musically proficient people and other artistic and creative types have in shaping history. His poem “Ode” begins this way:

We are the music makers,

And we are the dreamers of dreams,

Wandering by lone sea-breakers,

And sitting by desolate streams; —

World-losers and world-forsakers,

On whom the pale moon gleams:

Yet we are the movers and shakers

Of the world for ever, it seems.

From “ode” by arthur o’shaughnessy

Does O’Shaughnessy describe you in any way? Do you like to sing or play a musical instrument? Are you willing to enhance the worship experience for others?

If you answer yes to any of those questions, you will fit perfectly into our music ministry team. We hope you will join us. Whether you are willing to be involved in weekly practices and services or if you prefer to occasionally lend your talents to the church, your involvement is appreciated.

Allow our Music Director, Steven Olsen, to use your interests and talents primarily for God’s enjoyment. Then, from your vantage point in the choir loft, transept, or chancel, you will see the impact you have on the rest of us. Some will gently sway or enthusiastically dance along as we participate. Others may figuratively drift away, deep in our thoughts, as we wander to tranquil places.

Come make beautiful music with us. Be a part of the wonder of Mt. Hope.

Secretly, I'm writing inspirational nonfiction for adults and fictional stories for children. But before those are ready for public viewing, I share pieces of me on Deadwood Writers Voices, a group blog; and on Remembering Janet, the website for the nonprofit charity I’m passionate about. I hope you see my love for God, compassion for people, and enthusiasm for learning in all I do.
